30 Hacks, Tips and Tricks to Becoming More Productive
This month’s #BLMChat was all about being more productive on a daily basis. Host, Adeea Rogers of The Trendy Socialite is the essence of productive!  Her realistic tips helped attendees implement a strategy to becoming their most productive selves.  Here are some tips.
1.  2 Minute Drill – If a task can be completed in 2 minutes do it and do it now!  Planning to do it later, remembering to do it and actually doing it will take 5 minutes.
2.  Limit Your Choices – Keep it simple.  You don’t need 7 pairs of black pants, 5 pairs of brown heels or 11 different kinds of cereal.  keep your decisions making easy.  And leave the decision making energy for the important stuff.
3.  Don’t Burn Out – If you no longer feel productive stop working.  Not forever, but get some fresh air and take a walk around the block.
4.  Write it Down – Don’t rely on your memory.  Get it out of your head and onto paper.
5.  Get Off the Internet- The internet is a huge distraction.  If work permits, turn off wi-fi so you won’t be tempted to peek at your favorite websites.
6.  Brainstorm Style To-Do List – Try creating a to-do list but start in the middle of the page. Then add items above and below with arrows so you can see how certain tasks can be related to each other.  This will allow you to easily group similar tasks.
7.  Stop and Smell the Roses – Or at least look at something colorful.  Research shows that a colorful view first thing in the morning boosts your productivity.
8.  Rise and shine – It sounds like torture but if you wake up at 4 am you’ll find you have the house to yourself and some peace and quiet.  The hard part is getting up but if the cast of the Today show can do it, so can you.  And hey, you don’t have to do it daily.  Do it twice a week.
9.  Email Schedule – Determine certain times in the day to check email.  Do nothing else but check and respond to email.  Resist the urge to stop mid-task and check email. Instead, designate a time and stick to it.
10.  Unsubscribe – No doubt you receive tons of emails from subscriptions that you thought you’d have time for in the moment but now realize you don’t.  Unsubscribe yourself from one subscription per day.
11.  Do Real Work – Doing REAL work means only working 4-5 hours per day.  Truly, an 8-hour work day is not productive, contrary to popular belief.
12. Respect Your Time – Especially if you work for yourself, it’s easy to burn 30 mins to an hour procrastinating.  If you were being billed $1,000 an hour for the completing of a job, you’d make it your mission to get it done quickly and correctly.
13.  Routine – Set up a work routine and stick to it.  Your body may hate you for a few weeks and refuse to cooperate but it will eventually get in line.
14.  Stop Whining – You don’t have to feel like” doing something in order to do it.
15.  Prioritize – No two tasks ever hold the same priority .  Always prioritize.
16. The Biggest Bang – Always know the ONE thing you REALLY need to get done during the day.
17.  Delegate – Learn to make use of other people. If something can be done 85% as well by someone else, delegate.
18.  Eat that Frog – Do the most dreaded task first.  Get it out of the way so you can feel accomplished for the remainder of the day.
19. Sing Along – Well, not literally, but things are always more fun with music.
20.  Perfection? – Forget perfect.  Get it done.  Set it down and come back to it for small updates…then you’ll reach perfection.
21.  Open A Window – Natural light is proven to make a more productive environment.
22.  Be Accountable to Someone – Make someone keep you on track.
23.  No. – You can’t do it all so don’t try.  Taking on more than you can physically handle will result in stress and a false sense of inadequacy.
24.  Make it a Habit – The important tasks that must be done on a regular basis are ones that you should attempt to make into habits.
25.  Eat. – Eating a big breakfast is proven to make you more productive.
26.  Take shortcuts. – When it comes to keystrokes, learning shortcuts is a plus.  It may seem minor but shortcuts are a huge time saver.
27.  Use  Caller ID – Don’t pick up the phone if you’re in the middle of a task.  We have voicemail, text and email.  If the call is important you’ll get a text and you can always call the person back after your finished.
28. Turn off the TV – While it may seem like background noise, listening to the TV while working can turn into a distraction and rob you of a clear head.
29.  Keep a notepad by your bed for moments when brilliance strikes.
30.  Take a deep breath, refocus, work!
